Your education still very important. I think you should listen to your dad because he's right. Take 2 years in community college first for a "transfer" to another University afterward. You could ask your boyfriend to move and take 2 years community college with you then move together to Europe to finish the rest of career. Good lucks.

I have proposals for the new country, Southern Sudan. What do you think?
As you all may know, Southern Sudan is about to officially become a sovereign state. I have some proposals for the new country that I'd like to run by the group. This seems like the perfect place to submit them. The first main thing I'd like to introduce is a new currency. For the purposes of this post, I'll call the currency SSK (Southern Sudan Krona). I have 2 propositions for the currency. 1. Currency introduction could go like the Euro. When the Euro was first introduces, the exchange was about 1.19 Euros to $1 (USD). So, when first introducing the SSK, the exchange rate could be 1.20 SSK = $1. Eventually as time goes on, the SSK will get stronger until it's equal and surpasses the USD in value. 2. The currency value could start off and remain low in value but high in quantity. Let's say....6.70 SSK = $1. It could be like Norway, where people make LOTS of money. Minimum wage could be like 200 SSK/hr. ($30). People will make lots of money but cost of living will also be pretty expensive. So a minimum wage salary for a month would be 32,000 SSK ($4800). That would give the people lots of purchasing power. Other things I'd like to get there are international chain restaurants, build the communications infrastructure with wired and wireless high speed internet connections and cell phone towers for smart phones, Wal-Mart type stores that have everything, and transportation networks (interstates, roads, paved streets). I'd also like to get in a modern banking system where people go to open accounts and make deposits, and are issued credit and debit cards for purchases. I'd really like to go there, submit my ideas, and have them let me help them make it the strongest, richest economy in Africa. Tell me what you think.

How is America a better, or freer country, than say, Norway?

How is America a better, or freer country, than say, Norway?
I keep hearing Americans saying, "we're number one; we're the best; we're the freeest country on Earth; we have freedoms that no one else has; everyone is lining up to get into America; I'm glad that I'm an American because we have money and freedom and the others don't! U.S.A, U.S.A, U.S.A!!!!" So, how would these ignoramuses, who probably can't find other major countries on the map, feel if America were compared to Norway: 1. Norway: 3% unemployment; America is now over 9% 2. Norway: low number of people living below poverty level; America has a substantial number. 3. Norway has a constitution which guarantees freedom of speech, religion and the press as America does. So, who says America's the only country with freedom? 4. Norway also allows citizens to own firearms, so don't give me that nonsense that only Americans are allowed to bear arms. 5. Norway has a higher per-capita income than the United States (look it up, it's a fact) 6. Yes, Norway has high taxes, but if you consider the high per capita income, it's still a lot of take-home pay, and those taxes supply you with universal health care (a system ranked higher than America's and one in which no one goes bankrupt over medical emergencies or is denied due to pre-existing conditions; also, university doesn't cost $50,000 per year and it's a great system). 6. Yes, Norway has high gasoline prices, but a car is not a necessity in most cities as they have excellent public transport. All right, Norway doesn't have the climate variations that America has (no Miamis or San Diegos for sun seekers, unfortunately) and they haven't put a man on the moon (how that makes your daily life in America better, I don't know), but how is America better overall for day-to-day living? They have freedom of speech, religion, assembly, press, right to bear arms, prosperity, excellent education, excellent health care and low unemployment...so, what gives? Oh, by the way, to those who say, "well then just go move to Norway!" how about a response that requires some intellectual depth, i.e., "Hmmmm...sounds like those Norwegians are doing something right, how we can imitate their good qualities in our society to make it more peaceful and progressive?"

Lol. You ar right. If you do a little research you'll find that the ones running their mouth with that gibberish as never been out of the US do not hold a damn passport. Don't get me wrong I'M American and proud to be; but it bothers me when these uneducated idiots are just making a mockery of their selves. It broils down to the military power of the US; we are a consumer nation you understand after a tragedy like 9/11 our president told us Oh go shopping, pathetic.

Your question has to be one of the best structured arguments to really kick-start a discussion on the issues of how to improve the US which is currently in a downward spiral. In my opinion one of the key obstacles which is preventing real progress in America is something which the Norwegians (and many other Northern and Western European countries) have addressed in recent years - simply that is the act of objectively evaluating the progress of their country. How did they do this you might ask? Well they put their people first. Their society, from social services which include health care to worker quality and balance of life far exceeds anything Americans can even imagine in their wildest dreams. Take for example vacation days. Americans work harder than many other nations but definitely not smarter - on average Americans are provided with 2 weeks vacation while the average Norwegian receives 5 weeks (with pay btw and some even get 7). And to top it off Americans are now working 45 - 50+ hours per week - hardly sounds like your employer has your best interest and well being at heart doesn't it? Well thats because they don't - you simply are a person who performs a job and if you won't do the 50+ work week there is someone else willing to jump right in. The reason I make this example is because America is a capitalist society so much so that they defend it regardless of the pressure it puts on them as individuals - I mean to tie it in with current events, people are DEFENDING private insurers who are gouging and deny (rationing) care today! While the promise of a system which puts patients first is being demonized and portrayed as the beginnings of socialism (which is no different than the construction of roads as they are 'socially funded' by the Fox definition). To point I am trying to make is that America has the potential to be a great country again it just needs to remember what made it great in the first place and I am not talking about 'freedom fries' but life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for ALL - not just those who reap the benefits of capitalism.
5 :
The Norweigans have solidarity. The Americans don't !
6 :
As a Norwegian myself, I just want to contribute by saying that I believe that our society works as great as it does because we took the best from Communism (In effect, equal rights for all, none gets everything, everyone gets a little bit) And mixed those ideas with the capitalist ideas of a free marked and privatised industry, giving everyone the freedom they want to travel, work or spend their free time as they see fit. (Maybe Im wrong, maybe Im not. But these are my thoughts)

How many of you are against or for offshore drilling?

How many of you are against or for offshore drilling?
Norway is a beautiful country and they are enviormentally sound people and they are self-sufficient. And they also export. Why can't we. France runs almost all of its power on nuclear power and they store it underground. And we don't.? And for those of those who think that offshore drilling won't decrease gas and fuel prices. You're wrong. Keeping money out of foreign hand makes the dollar stronger. And since it's close to good old Uncle Sam artificial marketing wouldn't be a global thing. And also if it was a mistake to not start drilling years ago we need to start now.

I am for it. You are correct - we should have started years ago. There is a entrenched " Green Movement " in the U.S. that is against nuclear power and oil drilling, offshore or on land. One thing that the liberal left wing news will not tell us about is CHINA, WITH CUBA'S PERMISSION IS DRILLING 50 MILES OFF THE COAST OF FLORIDA.
2 :
You got it right and look at summer 2005 when Katrina followed by Rita tore through the Gulf of Mexico and destroyed over 100 oil platforms. Did you see the stories of oil spills? NO? That is because there was none. The oil industry has brought technology to bear that caps the wells at the ocean floor preventing any spills. The reason the offshore drilling was stopped off both coast was the threat of spills which is now gone and we are talking about 50 miles out to sea where they will be below the horizon from shore not like Galveston where if you look real hard you can spot them. As far as ANWAR the pristine section you see on the TV is not the area where they want to drill it is the frozen to 1000 ft deep tundra on the far north where a size of an airport will be developed and connect to already existing pipeline to the south. The fact is they just want to stop us from having oil to push their alternate energy which no one ask them when will it be ready. They complain that it takes 5 to 10 years to get through the red tape and build the infrastructure to bring the oil to market, but no one ask how long till your hippy energy will power our economy. Truth is way longer than 5 to 10 years.

I speek english, spanish and italian, but I don't speek norwegian (or how ever you call it). I'm 24 and all I care is about getting some money while visiting my best friend over there. I've worked as an english and spanish teacher before... I'm also a dentist... so maybe I could work as a dental assistant or something... I'm Italian (If that makes any difference)

Have you tried looking at job sites like Monster.com or seeing if there's anything similar in Norway (or if they have a sort of affiliate site)? They may have placement services there as well like a temp agency. Try asking your best friend since he/she lives there what sort of services they may have that are similar to what I've mentioned :-) Maybe you can get work in a 'touristy' spot since you speak so many languages. Good luck! PS... bring me back some lefsa!

It's hard getting a job if you don't know Norwegian. If you're willing to take jobs which you're clearly overqualified for, there are mainly three branches which foreigner who don't know Norwegian work in Bergen: The Fishmarket (Bryggen), Guiding tourists (summertime) and construction. I don't know the chances of being a assistent dentist in Norway, as there are some requirements for speaking Norwegian for health-workers. It might be someone seeking private language lessons though. Good Luck!

Has anyone heard about this Tamil/US/Norway conspiracy theory?

Has anyone heard about this Tamil/US/Norway conspiracy theory?
I'm an American and I'm backpacking through a few places and I ended up in Sri Lanka for a little while. Whenever I backpack through a new country and I'm making conversation with one of the locals, I always ask what people in their country think about America and Americans, and today I had a taxi driver (who happened to be Sinhalese) near Colombo tell me that he doesn't like Americans because he used to be in the army in Sri Lanka and he fought against the Tamil Tiger terrorist organization--he said that Sri Lankans think that America (he wasn't specific on whether it was the American government or civilians in America) funneled money through Norway to the Tamil Tigers to help them with their attacks. I just said something like 'I don't know anything about that', but later I did a few online searches and I couldn't find anything about it, even on the conspiracy theory websites--where did that rumor come from? It doesn't seem logical for my taxi driver to tell me that he thinks my country funds terrorism the day after Osama bin Laden was killed unless he thought it was true, but why would he think that?

I hate US government but not its people _____________________________________________ It is true that Tamil tigers were funded by Norway even during peace talks they(Norway & their representative Eric Solheim) were very biased.. Even during the last stages of war this guy tried to stop SL army killing Prabakaran don`t know about USA`s involvement BUT.., USA is clearly involved in UN`s Human right report which is against SL Now we just ended a war which has been a misery for our country for more than 30 years it cost well over 100,000 lives of Sinhalese & Tamil people during last stages as we all know LTTE used civilians in that area as a shield our army tried their but i am sure about 300-500 innocent civilians may have died in last week of the war more than half of these died because LTTE shot at civilians who tried to escape to the government controlled areas... How ever now its all over so Tamils & Sinhalese in this country are living happily since then After the war our GDP growth rate jumped to 8% from 3.5% in 2009(last 6,7 yrs average was around 5%),,expected to reach 9% + in future..,number of tourists are increasing at a rate of 50% ,no bombs, country is safe, refugees were settled , North & Eastern provinces developed rapidly..Then.. Suddenly look what USA & UN is going to do Now they are trying to conduct another investigation here It is said that UN too is forced by US to do this Even When countries like China & Russia are against these, why USA is trying to complicate situation in SL once again ? why they cant let people in this small island to live n their-alone? Even Tamil people in Sri Lanka don`t have any problem against what we did to LTTE !! Now tel me how may innocent civilians were killed by USA in Iraq,Afganistan,Vietnam & in Libya ? I am sure it is LOT more than the number of people killed by Al Quaida or LTTE Why UN didn't conducted any investigation about human rights there ? this is what make people in our country hate US(its government) +look how biased your media is...! for an example when after Bin Laiden`s death CNN said the justice has been done, hailed US army & said Americans are enjoying the freedom in times square waving US flags now this statement is 100% true..BUT.., look what they said when our army killed Prabakaran ! (Prabaran killed former Indian president-Rajiv Gandi,SL president-Premadasa,100,000+ civilians, bombed temple of Lord Buddha`s tooth relic, castle lady hospital, sacred bo tree & few schools !! ) when people in SL celebrated his death they described it as a very inhuman thing because SLns were celebrating the death of another Human !!!
3 :
I'm from Norway, and I've heard this too. I even got into a verbal "fight" on YouTube of all places, with a Sinhalese from Sri Lanka who made all kinds of absurd accusations against my country and compatriots. I'd advise you to not blindly trust the person who answered and wrote defamatory things about Norway. The truth is that Norway has had an active role in peacekeeping in Sri Lanka. We've sent down a delegation to negotiate peace between the two parties (Tamils and the Sinhalese), but instead of wanting peace both parties on Sri Lanka kept on fighting. Now, the majority (the Sinhalese) are blaming Norway for their internal conflict, which we tried to resolve after being invited there by them. Does that seem logical to you? Norway has sent down millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to Sri Lanka, in an attempt to help people there. Our taxpayers are paying for peace in Sri Lanka, and if you want to do research on Norwegian aid policy, Norway is one of the most transparent countries on the planet. I'm sure some Sri Lankans will claim that aid money went to something else than aid, but then you got to ask yourself what the motive would be? Also, where is the evidence? What would Norway gain from arming or in any other way helping the Tamil Tigers? Money? Resources? Norway is among the top 10 richest countries on Earth, in per capita GDP. Why would Norway need some resources in war-torn Sri Lanka? More importantly, why would Norway risk its good reputation abroad and possibly international condemnation over Sri Lanka? The Sinhalese I argued with through YouTube messages, thought that all Norwegians were Christian extremists. This shows how little people know about my country, considering Norway has one of the least religious populations in the world. These misconceptions contribute to a warped image of the country in question. If you can't know certain simple facts about a country, then how are you supposed to know about complicated conspiracy theories?
4 :
I live in Norway. I read your Question and some of the comments. I have been doing many researches about this issue ( if Norway is helping some elements in countries like Sri Lanka, Eritrea, and pale stain ). Indeed they do. They do because they have some kind of inferiority complex (that has a very long root with Sweden and Denmark, they act like the small brother of the big brothers (Sweden and Denmark)), they tend to help any one with the underdog status like the LTTE, or Hamas. it has nothing to do with religion though. When Eritrea was fighting with Ethiopia the Whole Norwegian politics was very biased and helping Eritrea in money and diplomacy. You can find more if you dig more! The case of USA is a mixture of anger and something that cannot be described easily. (There are some elements of the government of USA that is evil, which is beyond comprehensive to us from the third world). So whenever there is a bad thing happening in your area that is of Corse the work of the evil USA. though I don't have evidence that may satisfay you, But i hope this will give you some clue as to why your taxi driver is talking Gebrish: please read Norwegian envoys to leave Ethiopia : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6966597.stm Norway-Hamas link angers Israel : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/6470669.stm Eritrea and its Discontents here you will find info on how norway has paid to ERITREA INORDER ERITREA TO TRAIN LTTE : http://vimeo.com/18716003 you will find some of the projects that norway is fundding or has been fundding. Why are there so many people who just refuse to make a stand?

Why are there so many people who just refuse to make a stand?
I'm not necessarily talking about agnostics here. Saying that one doesn't know for sure one way or the other is completely fine with me. I'm rather talking about the apathetic non-religious people who just don't care at all. (Whether they be atheists, agnostics, deists or generic theists. Doesn't matter, really.) Like, people who live in a predominantly Christian country, for instance. And then they are obviously not Christian, but they remain totally apathetic when it comes to the whole religion issue! For instance in my country, Norway, we have a state church where 83 % of the population are members. Yet only 35 - 40 % consider themselves to be Christians I think, and the rest just let their tax money go to the church for no apparent reason. What is up with that?!? If you are a non-Christian person who is member of a church, why is that? How does it make any sense? What are your reasons? And would you be just as fine with being member of a, say, state mosque instead? Why or why not..? Why do YOU think that so many people refuse to make a stand when it comes to such an important issue? I'll admit that it does annoy me, but I'm not here to judge anyone. Just interested in hearing your reasons, okay..? =) If you're not religious, how can you not object to a system that takes so much money that could have been used on other stuff? How can you not protest against an institution which tries to impose its outdated "values" and "morals" on society as a whole? A church which hinders science and progress? Or in the USA: Even tries to mess with the educational system and denies people full equality. It is an institution which feeds on brainwashing people and catering to their insecurities. An industry that is constantly refusing to renew itself in accordance to the society we live in, thus creating conflict and outright hatred. And yet you just stand there and watch in silence, appearing to be completely fine with it.. Why is that? Please tell me, because I really want to know. I'm sincerely curious about this, actually.. It's easier to understand convinced Christian, as a matter of fact. Because at least they truly believe in something, and they stand by that no matter what.. *Sigh*. EDIT: Yeah, take a stand, I meant.. Typo. ;)

I'm guessing because the "enemy" is so large it is hard to fight something so big. It may also be a problem of organization, just getting the people together. In America, the churches have no say, besides lobbying and voting like any other special interest group.

THEY DON'T WANT TO BE MAR-TORS
10 :
the answer is very simple my friend. KNOWLEDGE with out this you can not make a stand,if you don't know where you will be a day from now, forget it!that is the reason why you have to be submissive to the governing authorities. That is the essence of Jesus teaching.
11 :
I don't honestly know for sure and I'm certainly not one of those people nor do I live in a country where there is a state religion. But..... I wonder if there's just a large group of people that consider church not so much a religious experience but a social experience. They see that the church does good work (charity), brings people together (fellowship), and don't believe it does any real harm so they have no reason to oppose its function or power. I (and a lot of people) wouldn't necessarily agree with those people but I think there are probably a lot of people who think that way. They may go once in a while and catch up with some old friends and think "well, they give money to the needy and help the children." Why rock the boat? They may think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. I'm sure others will have better theories.
12 :
I'm not Christian, but in America we acknowledge diversity of religious points of view for the most part, apart from a few intolerant types, so I find it unlikely someone who isn't religious would generally be hanging around in a church, or would hang around a church not his own, unless under a good bit of pressure from friends or family, we don't have a state religion here. As for how can I not object to such a church, I have to protect the rights of others to their freedom of religion, in order to keep my own rights safe, no matter how much I might disagree with them, if I would deny their right to exist, I would find my own rights denied some other time. The ones who try to mess with the educational system try to make laws for the rest of us and try to establish themselves as the state religion are loud, but a minority, most of us respect and treasure the separation of church and state as one of our freedoms. As for the amount of money they collect, what they do with it varies, some of them use it to build a bigger church, and for their own ends, others use it to establish shelters, food banks, and other charities, who am I to tell them they shouldn't? It's not a matter of watching them in silence, it's a matter of preserving their rights to their own spiritual path in order to preserve my own.

perhaps for some it is the only thing organized they ever belonged to, and that belonging means more to them than believing. Of course there are those who think they are safe by association.
16 :
The whole state church thing REALLY sucks. It would be great if Norway had separation of church and people wouldn't be signed up for a f*cking state church. Churches shouldn't be getting tax-favored status, let alone tax money. They should be taxed just like every other business! People tend to be apathetic and don't care whether they're signed up for some organization or where their tax money goes, so it's no wonder they don't resign from the church. That's why the government needs to be set up so that it doesn't sign people for a religion. ____
17 :
The reason is that it's virtually impossible to organize atheists. Sure in Norway there's the Human Etisk Forbund, but honestly people who aren't "joiners" aren't going to go for that. In many ways it's a sop by the state to continue to hold the church in a special place, as it's guaranteed by the constitution. One thing that you should recognize though is that if you open churches to the "free market" you get more aggressive recruiting and indoctrination like you have in the US. Here we may be pissed off that the states money goes to support the church, but it at least keeps them quiet, stops them feeling the need to recruit for financial reasons and allows the rest of us to be safely secular. A free market church would be more aggressive, so maybe not such a good thing. As long as there is someone like the HEF making sure that the role of the church in society is limited then the balance is there. At least Norway's better off than the UK where they sit in the legislature (House of Lords). Still for all that religion seems to have a lot less influence in Europe, and Northern Europe in particular than in the supposedly secular, US with all its constitutional secularism.
18 :
lol the churches oppose science and progress...yeah that's what we do. We go around boycotting hospitals and space shuttle launches...are you really that out of touch with American Christians? ;) Maybe we need to have a little chat lol Theyre not "trying to mess" with the educational system. They are simply applying the logic that was used against them for THEIR benefit. People said "If you want the Ten Commandments in the Courthouse, youre going to have to put up blah blah blah..." now, christians are saying, if you want to teach a weak theory such as evolution, you HAVE to teach a weak theory like creationism...except now people whine at the logic they implemented... I mean really...I WANT to believe in evolution....the conept of adaptation makes sense...but they have NO TRANSITIONAL FOSSILS...whatsoever...all they have is, "well, yeah that sounds good, lets make it a theory." Theyre basically saying we adapt to fit our surroundings...DUUUHHHH. oh...your question lol hmmmm, I guess youre kinda right, but hey, that means more money for us :)
19 :
It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with apathy. People don't like to rock the boat and lack the gumption to get off their a$$es and do something.

How to make real surge?

How to make real surge?
Hi, remember the old soft drink from ten years ago from Coca-Cola called Surge? I'm obsessed with not having to live a Surge-Free life, and don't have the money to import Urge from Norway on a regular basis. But what if I were to import a little bit of Urge from Norway, so I could reverse engineer it to make my own pop? Is this even possible without a chemistry degree? I'm pretty smart and willing to study a bit to know enough to do something like this if it means I get to drink my choice of beverage. Is manufacturing a carbonated beverage in your home even viable? If it's worth it I'll spend the money for the proper equipment, I just don't want to wastefully have to import a soda. If this even sounds remotely viable where would I start, and what direction would I go in? If this is not viable... what can I do besides pester Coca-Cola with e-mails everyday about it? I read tonight that six ounces of Vault and two ounces of Full Throttle taste like Surge, but there's ALL KINDS of home-brew recipes for this drink. I've tried a couple of them. I still crave the real thing. How can I make this a reality? I just realized that there may be differences in the European and American versions of the recipe (the most noticeable most likely the use of real sugar in stead high fructose corn syrup). So importing Urge from Norway may not be as optimal as buying an expired can from ebay for like 50 bucks.

Work for a 18 year old american in denmark, norway, or the UK?
I am a college student from Michigan. I want to work in europe next summer to make some money and experience some time abroad. I have already taken part of a rotary youth exchange to Hungary, so i am familiar with some of the difficulties that come with living abroad. i want to know what i can do for work? living conditions? pay? is it practical for someone my age to try to work in europe for summer work? and any other insight anyone might have. thank you all, every post is helpful to me.

To be honest your chance of working in Europe illegally is slim to zero, and working legally even less The days of being able to travel around Europe working for cash-in-hand have long gone I'm afraid. Since the expansion of the EU of Eastern Europe has taken place, the market has a massive influx of people prepared to do the traditonal low paid jobs that tourists used to do (e.g. waitering, bar jobs, kitchen workers, porters etc). Also fines for taking on illegal workers are on the increase and it is just not worth the hassle for employers now when they can legally employ staff from other EEA countries Also consider that Europe is facing the effects of the global crisis and therefore jobs are not "plentiful" anyway In order for an American to work legally in the EEA (Denmark, Norway & the UK all being part of the EEA) then you would have to find an employer who would be prepared to apply for a work permit on your behalf. He would have to pay the costs and also proof unequivically that the job position could not be fulfilled by anyone else from the total pool of labour from within the EEA. As a result it is only persons with specalist skills/experience (where there is demand Europe wide) that employers will invest time in. You will see most adverts that are in English these days state that applicants must already be eligible (in a positon) to work legally within the country as they will not invest the time/effort to do so for regular positions So in your case as an American student, you don't have the work skills/experience (yet!) to fulful the skilled migrant route, and as an American you would not be able to work legally without a work permit. Also consider that Europe have their own students who already live locally and are eligable to work, and are looking for summer jobs as well. I say this as someone who was a student and who has lived in both Norway and the UK as well. It is a real shame that the US does not allow the reciprical "Working Holiday Visa" that Australia/NZ and the EU have which would be perfect in your situation. I would suggest you look closer to home for work (or you could always look at the situation of other European countries not in the EEA as I am not sure of the situation there but imagine you would still need a visa?). Also consider the possibility of an exchange program for study which would be easier for you to do. Anyway, good luck

Why are the best countries to do business in all Socialist states?

Why are the best countries to do business in all Socialist states?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/21/the-best-countries-to-do_n_584773.html America isn't on the list, but you can see Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and other Socialist "hellholes" (lol) Has the American right created a false dichotomy between having a state with a safety net and having a state that is a good place to do business and make money? Um, those countries aren't exactly global powerhouses.
2 :
uh, those arent socialist states. They have private business and private property. Take a trip to Europe and enlighten yourself.
3 :
Because their republicans/conservatives aren't as racist, ignorant, and uneducated as ours. In all those countries...the parties compromise. In our country...we filibuster.
4 :
Obama has been in charge and he is socialist. What is he doing wrong?
5 :
Excuse me. None of those places are hell-holes. In fact, THEY are the best places on earth to live. They have the best life styles, and the highest standards of living. They make the US look like a piece of ....well you know. And having been there many times, I can tell you it's easy to do business under socialism.
6 :
Get a clue man - There isnt one Socialist country in that list.
7 :
HAHA another "great" place to do business is mainland China. But then I don't want to live there either. Too oppressive (never been a fan of communism) HuffPo...LMAO
8 :
Not one of those countries is socialist - they all have market economies. They have high levels of tax/spend for social programs and investment in public infrastructure, but that's a different thing altogether. Such practices tend to lead to high standards of living and high quality of life, if done wisely with a keen eye on balancing the books. There are problems at the moment because of the budget deficits due to the banking crisis, particularly in Iceland, but it is presumed that when these are dealt with practices will return to normal.

Has anyone heard the harping about the US not giving enough foreign aid money and Iran giving more the the US?

Has anyone heard the harping about the US not giving enough foreign aid money and Iran giving more the the US?
US levels for foreign aid fall short of this goal (the US currently ranks last among the world's wealthiest countries at about 0.1 percent of GNP.) However, in absolute amounts, the United States is currently the world's top donor of economic aid, providing $16.254 billion in 2003 according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In 2001, the United States gave $10.9 billion, Japan $9.7 billion, Germany $4.9 billion, the United Kingdom $4.7 billion, and France $4.3 billion. As a percentage of GNP, however, the top donors were Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Sweden. The Netherlands (pop. 16.3 million) gave $3.2 billion in 2001 — almost a third of what America contributed. We are funding a war against terror, forgive us world for coming in a little shy with the give away money. We are trying to make the world safe, democratic and free. Kudos to all those countries who were generous to give so much, the world needs you.

If I were in charge, I wouldn't issue dime one to any country. Since America is such a big bully and the cause for all the world's ailments, then no one will mind billions of American dollars being taken and put right back where it belongs...the taxpayer's wallets. Why didn't you check and see the amounts given to charity by AMERICAN CITIZENS. You anti-Americans really piss me off. Your FACTS are slanted and do not take into account charities and private donations. IF YOUR ANTI-AMERICAN butt would check those facts, you'd see Americans donate cash (as well as other aid and personnel) second to none!
3 :
we are not fighting a war on terror. terrorism is a tactic, not an enemy. bush is currently using terrorism by routinely dropping bombs on civilians and authorizing the torture of innocents. bush is not a president, he is a criminal, a gangster. he is draining our treasury and destroying our reputation. Almost all the money we give, anyway, is tied to our foreign policy goals. We have wasted a billion a week on bush's war based on lies. We certainly had the money to give ourselves a decent health care system and help the world. Instead, bush is using our treasury to sow terror around the world and keep all his buddies in the big money.
4 :
What is your point? These number do not include the military support we give either. I'm cool with what we do. No more needs to be given out.
5 :
In terms of the war on terror, the USA is working hard but not smart. America's foreign policy(which costs almost nothing) makes America the primary target for terrorists check the the link from which I am quoting: "More important, saying that Israel and the US are united by a shared terrorist threat has the causal relationship backwards: the US has a terrorism problem in good part because it is so closely allied with Israel, not the other way around. Support for Israel is not the only source of anti-American terrorism, but it is an important one, and it makes winning the war on terror more difficult. There is no question that many al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, are motivated by Israel’s presence in Jerusalem and the plight of the Palestinians. Unconditional support for Israel makes it easier for extremists to rally popular support and to attract recruits." http://www.lrb.co.uk/v28/n06/mear01_.html
6 :
Wouldnt it be a shame that the US would actually spend money where we could really use it, at home? When is this country going to wake up and spend money on its cities, health care, needy and to create jobs? U2's Bono allways lambasting the US and UK for not giving more money to other countries. Thats all well and good, but what about our own country? Look around Bono and people like you, we need to take care of ourselves and stop giving it all away!! You obvously dont know this country very well.
7 :
You know I get so tired of statistics you can prove or disprove any point, people make up their on and no one cares or notices.I for one am very proud of this country's humanitarian efforts around the world, and I wonder why other country's take so much pleasure in discounting what we do.We are the first name they call when in need ,but who helps this country. We are the most maligned and least respected, then leave us alone, don't take our money and then spit in our face.I am very proud and fortunate to be an American.I am proud of the American people as a whole, I am not proud of the people that live here ,feed off the government, squander its resources, disrespect its flags, then bad mouth the USA. Say anything you want about GWB,say anything you desire about liberals, conservatives, etc,if you don't like it then vote for change but do not talk badly about this country that I hold so dear.. .stepping off my soap box.......

Please help, i will miss 2 years of school and i dont know what to do with my life?
I have been living in Norway for about 1 year now, and that 1 year i went to a school that barely taught me any norwegian, so my norwegian is pretty bad. And i appplied for my 10th grade class (i would have been in the 11th if i was still in Canada, but im still in the 10th because i needed to learn norwegian), and now i wil lhave to go to anotehr school to teach me norwegian so i will miss 1 more year, so when i am supposed to be in gr.12, i will be in the 10th. So pretty much, i need backup plans. What could be ideas to make a stable living without completely relying on too much school? I play guitar so i plan to form a band and just sell albums and make some money off that, and i also plan to buy a house in the city centre and open a Metal music cafe/clothing shop, and i use to be an extra in comercials, so i may try that again. Would those ideas be good? And is there anything else i could try to do to make a decent living?

How to earn money as a teenager online?
I'm a 15-year old Norwegian boy looking for a online job. Since I live in Norway, there isn't so many of the typical sites I can use. I write very well English, and understands it even better, I have some experience in drawing (mostly sprites for video games), and my class at school is currently making and distributing a board game. Does anybody know of a site I could get a job which pays a little bit and where I can use these abilities?

Big move to Norway from USA?

Big move to Norway from USA?
I am Norwegian but have been living in NYC for the last 11 years, I am young and fisnihing up school so I havent made any major cash as of yet. My husband is Russian American Jewish, we have a young child together. I have been told that for my husband to be able to move with my and my sin, I must make at least 30, 000/ year, this is not a lot in Norway, in the US it is to some. Is there anything that I have missed? I do not want to leave without him and do the 3 month interval visits until I have made enough money in Norway. It will be much harder for me to find a job out there without someone to watch our child, preferably at home. We want to move soon and start a simpler life. Any advice from someone who has made or plan on making a move to Norway in a similar situation? Thank you

How can I travel to Norway for a Summer, but still earn money while I'm there?

How can I travel to Norway for a Summer, but still earn money while I'm there?
I'm Norwegian, and I'd like to go to Norway to connect with my roots. The problem is that I have a lot of student debt that will probably take the rest of my life to pay back. I have to make payments on these debts monthly so I need to find a job wherever I go. Is there some kind of exchange program that I can participate in or youth hostel that I could work in? I'm willing to learn almost anything especially if it has to do with Norwegian culture. Any ideas or advice?

If you have Norwegian citizenship and speak the language, you should have no problem picking up a summer job in touristy areas assuming you go early enough. Most of these hire before mid-June (and many are hiring now for summer) so it does depend on when you'd be here. Hiring almost comes to a standstill from mid-July through August. https://www.nav.no/sbl/stillingssok/enkelt.do http://www.finn.no/jobb/ If you don't have Norwegian citizenship (or citizenship with an EU country), or you don't speak a Scandinavian language, getting a job isn't really possible. This is true wherever you travel in Europe, you need a citizenship that allows you to work alongside the local language. In the first case as a foreigner, you would need a sponsored work permit in order to work here. Those are only available for skilled work, particularly in areas where Norway is lacking workers (like engineering). You can also get permits for seasonal jobs (like in fishing/whaling) but you generally need experience and contacts for this. http://www.udi.no/Norwegian-Directorate-of-Immigration/Central-topics/Work-and-residence/ If you don't speak a Scandinavian language you won't find unskilled work in Norway, even if you're legal to work here. Hostels and other touristy places often ask for 3+ languages (English, Scandinavian and an additional one). Any job that just hires for the summer is likely to be in service (hotels, restaurants, tourist shops). Norwegian is a requirement for these types of jobs, even when you aren't dealing with the public.

Do you think America actually gives money to poor people in other countries?

Do you think America actually gives money to poor people in other countries?
Americans are regularly told by politicians and the media, that America is the world's most generous nation. This is one of the most conventional pieces of 'knowledgeable ignorance'. According to the OECD, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the US gave between $6 and $15 billion in foreign aid in the period between 1995 and 1999. In absolute terms, Japan gives more than the US, between $9 and $15 billion in the same period. But the absolute figures are less significant than the proportion of gross domestic product (GDP, or national wealth) that a country devotes to foreign aid. On that league table, the US ranks twenty-second of the 22 most developed nations. As former President Jimmy Carter commented: 'We are the stingiest nation of all'. Denmark is top of the table, giving 1.01% of GDP, while the US manages just 0.1%. The United Nations has long established the target of 0.7% GDP for development assistance, although only four countries actually achieve this: Denmark, 1.01%; Norway, 0.91%; the Netherlands, 0.79%; Sweden, 0.7%. Apart from being the least generous nation, the US is highly selective in who receives its aid. Over 50% of its aid budget is spent on middle-income countries in the Middle East, with Israel being the recipient of the largest single share. The purpose of 99% of foreign "aid" is to create foreign markets for US products, especially arms sales. Foreign aid aids the giver (America), not the recipient. The leaders get the money, not the people. Giving money to the people is both not useful to the US as well as rather impossible. There are no people driving up to villages with cash and handing townspeople money making sure to distribute it evenly. They give it to the government and or the rebel leadership to allot. Richer nations receive the most aid. 1 third of all American aid goes to Israel and Egypt. After that it goes to places like Columbia, Pakistan, Jordan etc... not Rwanda or Burundi or Botswana. When looking at how it's allotted by the US, it's clear that strategic considerations, political alignment and drug policy are the biggest considerations while the poorest nations receive the least if any aid. The U.N. Voting Record doesn't even count, if you can't do anything for the US. Sweden spends the majority of it's aid on places like Sierra Leone, Gaza & the West Bank and Liberia and the rest of Africa. When will Americans come out of their government / media induced coma and realize the propaganda that is fed them? Of course America doesn't give money to poor people. They don't even give any to poor dying Americans, why would they give it to a Botswanian? http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articl… http://www.networkeurope.org/feature/swe… http://www.vexen.co.uk/USA/foreign_aid.h…

15 :
how about if we stop giving and see who starts starving first? Then we'll know for sure.
16 :
Dude, if we gave money, then the poor country would use the US dollars to buy Chinese goods. Why would we support that? I think it's fantastic that we provide support in terms of US made goods that support/bolster our economy. All other countries do the same. If you had a better understanding of economics, you'd get the picture of why this is done.
17 :
does it matter whether we give money or assistance ...we try to give a helping hand...it's also a good way to keep those country's on our side..scratch my back and i'll scratch yours
18 :
I believe that people are told by politicians and the media that the US is the most generous nation not only in the country, but in all nations except Denmark, Sweden and all those who are more generous than the US.
19 :
We ARE the most generous nation, because we give an enormous amount of wealth in PERSONAL contributions. People willingly give their money to people instead of have it taken in taxes. The first link I have provided shows you that we give more in charity in terms of GDP more than any other nation.
20 :
Ok, you are correct, the U.S. sends less money than it should for foreign aid. What contributes more are charities. but you know what is also part of the problem? the less developed countries are partly to blame. We send them aid and their leaders take all the money. The people don't even revolt, and when U.S. soldiers are deployed the people protest. We send them food, we send aid, maybe not enough but the ignorance of the people of the poor countries causes them not to use the resources they get wisely. If progress is to be made they need to also help themselves, because the developed nations can't do everything for them.
21 :
I hope not
22 :
Seriously, you must research what you espouse. The United States offers more to every other country who suffers more than any other nation in our world. I understand why you're confused unless you research. The United States of America supports Botswana with food and medicine as we support every American citizen and even give food and medical support to people who are here illegally. What more shall we do? How much more shall we give? Our citizens are suffering silently most times. What more can we do, I ask you.
23 :
Yes, those poor- rich Jews in Israel are eating caviar and drinking Perrier thanks to America's dime (s) every year. Yet they're showing their tails at the current American President. Don't they have a nerve! Pfffft !
24 :
Unbelievable... You forgot one little item: Americans PRIVATELY donate close to $300 BILLION (with a "B), which overwhelms ANY other country. Not to mention the additional volunteer time Americans donate which eclipses European efforts. "Q. Are Americans more or less charitable than citizens of other countries? A. No developed country approaches American giving. For example, in 1995 (the most recent year for which data are available), Americans gave, per capita, three and a half times as much to causes and charities as the French, seven times as much as the Germans, and 14 times as much as the Italians. Similarly, in 1998, Americans were 15 percent more likely to volunteer their time than the Dutch, 21 percent more likely than the Swiss, and 32 percent more likely than the Germans. These differences are not attributable to demographic characteristics such as education, income, age, sex, or marital status. On the contrary, if we look at two people who are identical in all these ways except that one is European and the other American, the probability is still far lower that the European will volunteer than the American." Of course much of this it to the poor IN OUR OWN COUNTRY, where (I always thought) charity begins... However, the Libs believe entities such as the U.N. should be dictating to us where and whom to donate to, instead of making the choices ourselves (not unlike our current administration, who knows how to spend our money better than we do ourselves...) This just gets better and better...
25 :
Nope but we donate at least twice the amount of food any other country sends. We pay 22%of the U.N. bill when we should have told them to piss off long ago.
26 :
I tried all links provided and all said : This page not available. You've been sabotaged! I've seen those numbers before. You're correct!
27 :
I was going to answer your question, but your comments already contain most of my arguments. The idea of the most generous country in the world is a fantasy that will live on forever in the minds of most americans. Your comments are well informed and correct. The other fantasy is the idea of a freedom loving and democratic country. South America has been devastated in the sixties, seventies and even eighties, by american supported dictatorships, resulting in executions and disappearance of thousands of people.(Chile, Argentina, Nicaragua, Guatemala, etc) The US Congress, especially Senate, is a corrupt millionaire club. The turn over rate in the US Senate has been confirmed to be less than in the old Soviet Politburo. Robert Byrd,a senator who fought against desegregation and is an old KKK member, almost 90 years old and mentally disabled, has no problems with re-election. Harry Reid is by far the largest land owner in Nevada. As I was told many years ago: You will only get get respect in this country if you have money.
28 :
America is the most generous country in the world, Commie twit. How much does YOUR country give, Eurotrash?
29 :
First, using Jimmy Carter to back you up makes you look as stupid and unhinged as that old fart is. Second, consider this: Americans (individuals) give far, far more money to charitable organizations, relief funds, etc than ANY OTHER PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. You think the French, or the Danes opened their wallets when the tsunami hit? Were THEY collecting millions and millions of dollars to help those people? No. We did. And no, we didn't make money off of it. Furthermore, it was the American Navy that sent ships and provided supplies, food, and medical care to those people. How many ships did Denmark send? Norway? Hmmm? Whenever there is a natural disaster or humanitarian crisis in the world, it's America and Americans who send most of the aid, not the Danes, not the Norwegians. As far as what the UN wants, who cares? It exists solely to drain the American pocketbook, while giving third world sh*tbags a forum to denounce us. Anyone who cares about the goals of the UN is an *sshole.
30 :
Let us assume for the sake of argument that everything you said is the gospel from on high. So! I don't know anyone personally who is in favor of giving foreign aid at all. I'm not saying there aren't any but I don't know them, maybe they just don't live around here. Your expecting us to get all emotional because the government doesn't give as much as you would like or to those you think should get it. That they confiscated (oh sorry taxed from us to start with). If we had anything to say about it the money would still be in our pockets. As for the UN. I have yet to figure out what we need them for. And I really don't care what they suggest or want. I think they should move their headquarters somewhere else. Siberia maybe. Oh well we all have our dreams.

Can I make money in the Fashion industry?

Can I make money in the Fashion industry?
I'm 13 year old girl. Since I was 11 years old, I wanted to move to NYC and become something in the fashionindustry. Now I'm living in little Norway in Europe(sorry for my bad english) The main point here. I look at shows like The Hills, and The city, and I wonder, how big is the odds for me to get jobs like they do? People I know have always said that I have a extrem style for a 13 year old girl, and they have also said that all my dreams will come true, because I'm so talented. I'm not beliving them, but it sure do help on my self-confidence. I'm not thinking of a career in fashion design, I'm NOT a good drawer, I'm thinking of a career as a styist, or something like Whitney in The City? Which possibilites do I have, and do you have some school to commend?

You're only 13, you'll probably change idea by the time you get there and yes if you are really talented, you can make money in the industry
2 :
If working in the fashion industry is your dream, go for it. Even if you are not so talented in drawing, you could take visual arts classes in secondary school. You could even take fashion courses if your school offers them, and other arts courses such as photography could help you develop your fashion sense.
3 :
It really depends on your talent and your connections. You can't just waltz in and expect to get jobs because you have good style etc. Start building up a portfolio and take classes. Learn about the industry. Attend special fashion schools. Then you'll be on your way to landing a spot in the fashion industry.
4 :
Start practicing your drawing now. You will be better than you thought, with practice. Drawing is like playing piano -- only a few people have a really great talent for it, but almost anyone can do a decent job at it if they take lessons and do what their teacher says. You don't have to paint like Michelangelo to do fashion sketches.

How much does a bus driver makes in Norway?

How much does a bus driver makes in Norway?
Hi All, How much does a bus driver makes per 40 hours in Oslo, Norway? I heard it is good money...
Other - Europe - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
According to this site, bus drivers in Norway make 22,655 kroners per month, so about 5,500 kroners per week (40 hours). In US dollars, this is between $1,771 and $2,633 per month.
2 :
You have to compare it with cost of living though. It's about 260,000 300,000 Kr per year based on adverts on NAV (search on Bussjåfør). Cost of apartments are high and that will swallow a big chunk of any wage. Food costs, car procies, general living costs are all very high so this has to be taken into account. Oslo is rated as the 4th most expensive international city after Moscow, Tokyo and London.

How to earn money in the USA without a working license?

How to earn money in the USA without a working license?
A friend of mine just got married to a US citizen, and meanwhile his waiting for his working license and right to stay here he cannot work and also not leave the country. Is there anyway my friend from Norway legally can make some money in the USA while he is waiting? He told me it would take approximately 1-2 years before he will get his greencard, and 2-6 months before he will get his temporary working license while waiting for his greencard.

Find something he can make and sale. Americans love stuff from other cultures.

Maybe as a day laborer, or in a small business like landscaping, or painting peoples houses, etc. A good way is cleaning up jobsites for homebuilders.

Millions are working illegally. I'm sure there is a way. How is it possible that he's here' legally but not to work? Is it a tourist visa? That seems odd. It seems he's not in compliance with the law if he has no work permit, but is planning on working. No one else takes it seriously, though, why does he care if he breaks the law, millions are doing it every day.

I had a friend from Zimbabwe in college. She once told me all she was allowed to do in her time here was clean houses. Can he make things? Maybe he can sell stuff on ebay or something. What skills does he have?
5 :
Well, I hope she's rich, 'cause it sucks to be him! LOL That's just the point, the mad rush for immigration is causing people to do all kinds of things, including break the law.

Why do people make more money in Qatar, Luxembourg, Norway, and Singapore than the USA?
I was checking out GDP per a capita and it's kind of sad to see America no longer is leading. Does this not worry other Americans? This site lists three sources.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita It's expense for Americans who travel in Europe cause our dollar is devalued so bad. The Euro is worth more... - Yeah it's going to cost more USD to buy something in Euro.... - It's not that hard to see Cold hard fact and V2... Thank you Great answers

Obama can find the solution if he listens to this man: http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Free_Trade.htm OBAMA: For far too long, certainly during the course of the Bush administration with the support of Sen. McCain, the attitude has been that any trade agreement is a good trade agreement. And NAFTA did not have enforceable labor agreements and environmental agreements. And what I said was we should include those and make them enforceable. In the same way that we should enforce rules against China manipulating its currency to make our exports more expensive and their exports to us cheaper. And when it comes to South Korea, we’ve got a trade agreement up right now, they are sending hundreds of thousands of South Korean cars into the US. That’s all good. We can only get 4,000 to 5,000 into South Korea. That is not free trade. We’ve got to have a president who is going to advocate on behalf of American businesses and American workers and I make no apology for that Source: 2008 third presidential debate against John McCain Oct 15, 2008 Global trade is unsustainable if it favors only the few This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many. Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth, with meaningful protections for our people and our planet. This is the moment for trade that is free and fair for all. Source: Speech in Berlin, in Change We Can Believe In, p.268 Jul 24, 2008 What can you do when Obama himself articulates the problem and the solution in detail, with reasons, then he refuses to listen to himself after he takes office? Since he has taken office, he has done the exact opposite of what he himself declared during the campaign.

We have a lot more poor people to average in than they do.

5 :
I don't know, because our Standard of Living is Much Higher. Obama will change that.

It has been this way for a long time. The US hasn't led in decades. Norway, unknown to most, is the worlds 3rd largest exporter of oil and the country only has 4 million people. Qatar- same reason: lots of oil and a small population. Luxembourg is the world's second largest investment fund center. All sorts of major corps are based there because of that - ebay, skype, etc. The country also has less than half a million people Singapore- Has the freest markets in the world ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore#Economy ) It has one of the busiest ports in the world. The population is under 5 million. There you go!

Although I am not a big fan of Lou Dobbs, but "war on middle class" has it consequences. Many Americans still prefer to be blind about widening gap between riches and poor. Diminishing middle class is the result why USA is becoming more like Latin America and why ,on average, GDP per capita is falling. Qatar and Norway also have high revenues from oil. It helps.

It may because half of their pay dosen't have to go to the worthless, like here in the USA.

How much would a profession like this make in norway?

How much would a profession like this make in norway?
If you happen to be a Finishing Contractor in Norway, as in freelance, would you be making a lot of money? Lets say u live outside of Oslo? Are people in this profession considered wealthy, or just have enough to feed a family of 2-3? As a Finishing contractor, and a strong believer of the Christian Faith, can he also be an elder of a church there? putting together financial and professional status...?

You'd be around average income I think based on the wages for full time employees in construction. It will vary though as depending on the specific business they may have specialist skills, etc that command a higher premium. Depends which church he's in, not sure the church of Norway has elders, but they do have a parish council. Obviously there are other churches. I take it he speaks Norwegian as that would be a bit of a stumbling block
2 :
The pay of most jobs in Norway is fairly equal, meaning people generally earn a good living wage but few are wealthy. Taxes increase as salary increases. If you have a family, both parents usually work, as living on one wage in a country as expensive as Norway isn't ideal. I don't think the Church of Norway has elders either, but free churches usually do, although financial/professional status doesn't really play a part. Norway is statistically the least religious country in the western world though, which means you may not be satisfied with the options and community. Only 36% consider themselves religious at all, and less than 3% attend church regularly (monthly or more). I actually don't know anyone that goes to church and the figures are even lower in Oslo. As mentioned above, either of your questions would require a fluent Scandinavian language. Norwegians speak excellent English, but it's not the language of business or social life here.

I have understood, Franchising in Norway are taking again a growth throughout the country, therefore a Franchise Manager, has good demand. Also there are a lot demand: Wind Farm Specialist Geophysical Specialist Account Technology Specialist Planning Engineer That country is one of the richest in the world, its activity related to exploitation of oil and coal places in that position. The fishing industry is fully developed. That's where you find a career or work related to these economic activities are always going to need specialists and they pay lucrative wages. OK

you could take a 4 year education in something construction related and then go offshore. You'll practicly be living at the platforms from here to there though, so it isn't family friendly. Good money though
