You have to look at the charts between USD and those currencies. Daily, 8hrs or hourly movement. Then you can anticipate the movement and make decision. Check out some providers like saxobank.com.
2 :
This is not a well-specified question.... How long do you plan to hold the currencies -- 5 minutes? 1 day? 1 year? The trading strategy would be very different. If you plan to hold them very short-term, then looking at recent movements is your best bet. However, the longer you plan to hold them, the more you should start looking at the underlyling economic fundamentals in each country -- especially likely changes in interest rates.

First of all you can keep $4,875,000 of your money tucked under your mattress. The good news with the Forex market is you can trade with leverage up to 400-1. What this means is that you only need to invest $12,500 to control $5,000,000 in foreign currencies. So you would open an account with $125,000 and using a margin of 10% you would only need $12,500 into your trades. The only 4 currency pairs that you should consider are the ones that trade the highest daily volume and are the most liquid. These would be the EUR/USD, the GBP/USD, the USD/CHF and the USD/JPY. The USD/JPY is the most volatile of the 4 so you would trade fewer lots of this pair. The GBP/USD is the next volatile and the EUR and CHF arethe most conservative. Good luck and when you cash in please send me $100 for my guidance to pupp52@yahoo.com. Cheers.

When was the last time you met an immigrant from a socialized country?

When was the last time you met an immigrant from a socialized country?
Why don't people from Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Australia, Ireland, France etc, move to America anymore? I have met several recent immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Russia, the Ukraine, Serbia, Colombia, Brazil and The Phillipnes, countries with terribly low standards of living. Recently I had friends from Sweden who' father was very well off in the entertainment business but they left the U.S. saying that it wasn't what they expected, I took this as the most polite way they could say it. I had a business aquaintence from New Zealand same story she lasted 2 years and said that America was far too expensive and dirty, and she couldn't believe that we considered ourselves the best country in the world. Two friends of mine from the Czech Republic said that America was good to make money but they would never live here otherwise saying that the people were too ignorant to hold a conversation. And I caught an interview with the heirs to Wales, when asked their opinion of the U.S. one said, "Awful". And why are many wealthy families now leaving for Singapore and Hong Kong and U.A.E.? Such as Jim Rogers, the most successful international fund manager in America, saying that the U.S. is set for a total collapse. And even Dick Cheney has purchased a retirement home in Dubai. Also it was reported that Mr. Cheney had taken up a short position on U.S. dollar investments. Is there something going on that us Americans aren't being told? Hey Paul, I don't mind leaving the U.S. there is just a couple of problems. First if I leave I have to pay 44% of my worldwide assets to the IRS. You see there is a provision in the Hero's Act passed into law this year that obliges the IRS to seize my property for leaving a so called free country. Also I have to pay taxes to the U.S. even though I would be earning and living somewhere else, the U.S. is the only country in the world with this policy. As well even though the door is wide open for any one to enter this country, other country's are very difficult to immigrate to, for example Switzerland requires you to deposit $1,000,000 into its banks and have command of 3 languages. So there fore unless you are willing to provide assistance I suppose I will be staying.

leave if you don't like it here

Funny you bring that last line up. I was talking to my dad the other day (who has been in real estate for over 3 decades), and he said he thinks America will make it out of this downturn, but he doesn't think we'll make it out of the next one. We have begun socializing so much that we won't be able to sustain ourselves in a downturn, and there will be near anarchy, with lots of looting and other crimes. That's just his opinion, he could be wrong. But it makes you stop and think.

I was raised half in the US and half in the UK. If I had to choose today which country to stay in I would choose the UK. Back in the 80's I choose the US. I wanted to go to college, and that was the biggest factor. But I can tell you, comparatively as far as health care, care for the elderly, politeness, decency, primary educationm the US is as backwards as any industrialized country can get. I would go home in a second if I could.

a few years ago I went to college with several. They believe the American government restricts its people to much to allow them to be happy. The ones I met were wondering where the freedom actually was. All they saw was us getting controlled from the time we wake to the time we go to sleep with the only freedom we actually enjoyed was when our eyes were closed. Their government was paying for them to go to college here, and paying them a large stipend for living expenses. they had no worries but school. It is no wonder foreign students do so well, and we have to hire them to fill positions. they thought America was all screwed up tryig to regulate the wrong things if we really wanted our people to be happy and free.

I know people that have moved here from Europe. The close friends that remained say that they pay about 60% in taxes. They have universal health care and other rich government managed programs. Immigrants move into that nation because they can live off the government. There is a lot of racial tension because of the poor that migrate there and feed and suck the life out of that country. I can only imagine what would happen here if all the liberals got their way. I prefer the true American way where you work for what you have. No free handouts.

I think sometimes that US is paranoid and must spend big chunk of its federal budget on defense and military presence... I would love to see any of the counties you have listed above spending this much on military and social programs as well... I agree, we have been a leader (or police, which ever word you prefer) of the world for so long that we forgot about our Internal affairs... Our economy is on it's knees, big part of population is uneducated and unhealthy, majority works for dimes and no one complains!!! I lived in Western Europe few years, not everything is so great there either... however standards of life are higher if you are successful. It is harder to find good professional job, job demand is high but required qualifications are much higher this there is a great competition... Listen, it is great to live anywhere if you have money, however US is land of opportunity (I hate to sound like broken record), if you put an effort, you can make it...

How can I help my son pick himself up? What can I do as a parent?

How can I help my son pick himself up? What can I do as a parent?
I have a 20 year old son who spent the last year in college. He then quit college cause he didn't like the program he chose and got a job for a few months, but the company had to close down because of the recession. My son then moved back to us and he then left for Norway a few weeks ago to find a new job. When he was in Norway he was confident of finding something and he did get 3 job offers. But the apartments are very expensive. They want a three month security deposit which my son does not have and he came back being very sad and depressed. He has tried to make money here, but we live in a small town with very little work. Since then he has been very sad and does not want to talk to anyone. He has no friends here anymore, he will not speak to me or his mum and I think that this will break him if it continues like this. The thing is that I have the money to give him but he would not take that sort of money from his family if his life depended on it. I try talk to him but all he says is "Dad, I really appreciate you and mom letting me move back, but I am really not in the mood for talking or being around anyone. Please just leave me alone". I remember when he was a happy, social kid that chased after girls. But now all he does is sit at home, play his guitar and runs for like an hour every day. I don't know what to do anymore. It is killing me to see my son like this. What can I do to help him?

you can only do so much. Sometimes you have to let him work himself through whatever he is going through. You trying to help with sometimes make it worse. it's hard to watch, but normally the right thing to do
2 :
That's really unfortunate. It's great to see a caring parent. Keep offering your support and love. Tell him when he rejects you, "I respect that you want some time alone. When you are ready, you can always come to me to talk about anything even ideas that you have." For the money thing if you really want to help, try not giving it to him. Try to make it a loan type of deal. It's good that he does not want to take it. Plus with a loan idea, it might make him motivated to succeed. Maybe..."I want to help, and I can give you 3 months deposit for the apartments. Let's make a schedule and you can pay me back in 12 months." It sucks when someone is depressed. Sometimes in your mind you know the answers, but you are afraid to act on them to fail again, so you wait and think some more. Sometimes you know what will make you happy but feel like you don't deserve it.

Im sure he has a relative or friend that lives somewhere other then the small town you are in that might have some options, I would suggest looking through craigslist and if he finds a lead then time to make that call to the family member / friend in that state and see if something can be arranged temporarily

this is tough. i know how depressed i was when i found out they were raising prices again and i couldnt go to college because i couldnt afford it. my big sister is more like a mother figure to me so when she saw how depressed i was she did little things that let me know she was there for me. she would leave me little notes and my favorite andes mints and just small and kind of silly stuff that made me feel not so alone. you can try stuff like that. dont be discourage if it takes a bit to respond to little things
5 :
take charge!as a parent when your trying to help and he tells you "i don't feel like talking" you tell him "well were going to talk"!and just let him know that while you understand he does not want to take the money from you at the moment he kind of needs to use it like a stepping stone, tell him if it makes him feel better he can pay you back when he gets settled and on his feet!everyone goes through a slump from time to time and with your help and encouragement he will pull himself out of this one!

Could a Nordic style welfare state work better if country A export more to other countries or though tariffs?
If a country like Norway exports more in what it makes or does than it takes in,could welfare entitlements be not all disruptive to the economy due to the fact Peter isn't robbing Paul so much as taking money from someone else from the outside world?

No, I doubt it. The nordic style welfare works because it is run efficiently. Increasing tarriffs will reduce the income of the nation, making the welfare more difficult to finance. The better way to finance the welfare is to increase productivity within the nation. Efficient markets, well run government programs, investment in education; these are the policies that make welfare programs more affordable.
