I live in Texas but want to move to Berlin Germany?

I live in Texas but want to move to Berlin Germany?
Ok, I am 19 and wanting to start a new life! I quit my job as a stage hand and Rhodie because my boss is a perv and had a crush on me! but anyways, i have no source on income. So i am going to get a job as a bar tender or something that makes a decent amount of money and tips! I am going to save all that money for an apartment, my parents even said that they would help out the first couple months! But is anyone on here from germany? if so can you tell me what its like, i have only been to Denmark and Sweden! I love the German language, and i have been studying it for a while, but want to speak it fluently! i am tied of the USA! I love going to new places. I am actually part german, norwegian and italian, my dad was born in oslo norway as well! But back on the topic, I have been doing research over Berlin, looking at apartments, I don't care where it is as long as it is near Berlin or Hamburg! Does anyone know of any good apartments over there, with a good descent price, for a one person, and one bed room? I would appreciate anything right now! i just want to get out of here lol! I cant join the Military for health reasons! My dad wants to move back to Sweden.

then you should follow your heart

Believe your heart and instinct, see what your friends say. The u.s. is a great place but so is germany.

check the intenet like everyone else does (no direspect)

your not a kid anymore, so if you want to move to germany then do it. i would love to move there too. im a huge history buff. hope you can speak german. go online and look for local newspapers from germany, they will probably have a section of rental apartments and stuff. most newspapers do. good luck in germany. :)

I can't help you with the apartments, but I can suggest a good program for learning German. Try looking on Google for the Rosetta Stone program, my mom knew someone who used it to learn English and they were surprised at how easy & fun the program was. The program is on the expensive side, but if you're planning to move to Germany and want to become fluent, it's probably worth the investment. Also, Rosetta stone has a free web community where you can make friends with people from other countries and practice speaking eachother's languages via audio chat. See my source links for more information.

You haven't thought this through. You need a VISA and it will expire forcing you to move back. Go take a vacation to scratch that itch. You issues are not with the location your in they are with you. No matter where you move you will have new and similar issues. Also in countries like Germany where jobs are limited they don't like to give the good ones to us yanks. I suggest you join the military. They will send you to new and exotic places where you can observe then shoot the locals.

If you want to move to Germany and do not mind a little bit of a strict life style then I'd suggest going into the Army or Air Force. You can request (but that doesn't mean you will get it) to be stationed in Germany or Europe. Once there keep on extending your time at the duty station (which is not that hard to do), and when you get out of the military after your 3 or 4 years then tell them that you want to move to either Berlin or Hamburg. If you have a good person working at the military transitioning place then the military would pay for you to move all your belongings to an apartment in one of those cities. Once in a European duty station you can pretty easily tour most of Western Europe by train or car, and living in those countries you can fully immerse yourself the local language.

Hey Sammy, I'm also 19 yrs old and living in Germany now =) But if you want to move to Germany, you absolutely must learn German. People might say that you can get by with just English, and that's true, for a tourist. Without German, it will be almost impossible to get anything done (dealing with visa, finding a place to live, getting around, being able to get a job... etc...). In addition, its not exactly to work here as a non-eu citizen. And the unemployment rate is quite high (compared to the US) in Germany, particularly in the east. Berlin is between 10-15% I think. I don't want to discourage you from moving here though, because its an amazing country and a great experience to live abroad. But you really need to look deeply into this to be able to pull it off. Learning german is the best place to start :)

Has anyone else encountered a person like this?

Has anyone else encountered a person like this?
Upon moving into the International House at my university this semester, I met a young Masters student from Norway. I had never met a Scandinavian before and, sadly, tend to romanticize things way too much (particularly foreign men). We spent a good part of the Welcome Week discussing all manner of topics...and then I was in his room one night, one thing led to another, and we slept together. I told him I wanted to wait and warned him beforehand that I get emotionally attached but he pushed and I gave in. Afterwards, we cuddled and he starts talking about how I should let him know if our relationship is moving too fast or too slow and that he never wants to hurt me or our friendship. Then, we sleep together again. The next day, he tells me that he wants no commitment and has never, in fact, had a relationship because he likes to 'keep his options open' Mind you, this guy is 27. I asked him if this was due to a tragic experience in the past or perhaps he has not found the right woman--he said that nothing triggered it, it is just how he is. He has traveled all over Russia, sleeping with who knows what and says that most girls there are just gold diggers...okay, my father is a physician; I have no use for this guy's money. Unfortunately, rejection only makes my lust stronger and so, we continued hooking up semi-periodically for the next month (he lives across the hall from me). Then, one day after I sent him a suggestive text message, he messages me on Facebook and says that we should stop 'being lovers' because I am becoming emotionally attached. He said that 'he simply does not want a sexual or romantic relationship with me, just like he doesn't want one with 99.9% of the people he meets, and it just took him a bit to figure it out in our case.' I think the real issue was that, as he is big on 'spontaneity', any time I try to schedule a hook-up, he finds it mundane and expected (in the beginning, he had suggested that we meet every week, but men change their mind faster than you can blink). I then explained to him that any attraction I had to him was purely physical (this was actually true). So a month later, we encounter each other in the hall at 1 am and he invites me in...and we end up at it again...I asked him why, as he'd said he didn't want to be lovers anymore and he just said that he was 'still attracted to me'. We slept together one time after that, but in retrospect, I allowed him to contact me after he told me we should stop seeing each other, I let him come to me. Still, I feel rotten because every time we were together, he would not reciprocate certain pleasure acts I'd perform (even though he told me he does perform them on some women), and he had a fascination with anal play...something just felt creepy but I was not fully satisfied unless we were together. Every session, I was feeling less and less respect until I finally broke it off last week, and stated that I heard him speaking with a girl in his room and this did not bother me as much as it once would have (I am a possessive partner). I then informed him that I may be finally able to 'stop wasting my time on him', as he put it. At first, I didn't understand why he would keep contacting me if he wanted me 'off his tail', so to speak. I am aware that I allowed myself to be used...but i suppose that I was also using him to some extent. This is a guy with whom I cannot have a normal conversation...only debates or the receiving end of his criticism. He also informed me that he does not answer when his parents call him from home because they call at the same hour every day and that he finds this 'mundane'. I realize that he has little emotional capacity, but I am just wondering if anyone else has met a similar type of character? I can honestly say that he is the oddest I have yet encountered... P.s. Kudos if you managed to read this entire passage. : )

Yeeeaahh, it definitely sounds like he has problems. It sucks that you got so mixed up with him, but shiznit just seems to happen that way I guess. Hopefully this is just a stage (early mid-life crisis maybe?) and he'll get over it someday. From reading that he sleeps around a lot, I just hope y'all used protection so that you don't catch anything.

My ex was like this guy. Except he had the gift of gab so somehow everything managed to have a positive spin to it. Seriously the guy is a douche and needs to get off his high horse. Seriously no one cares about how many women his been with or what he finds "mundane". His so typically atypical its a joke. His clearly playing into the whole "foreign guy experience". If he truly is like the guy he pretends to be then he wouldn't have contacted you again after he said he was done with you. I hope your done with him and never give him the time of day again. You deserve so much better than what that ass hole would ever dream of giving you.

Thanks, I read the entire passage. Whilst I have not been in this situation, I know the kind of person you're talking about. It's a European thing, trust me. I was born in Europe and lived there for the first few years of my life, until I was 4, when I moved to Australia. I have lived here ever since but I go home for 8 weeks at the end of every year. Because I've lived in Australia, when I go to Europe I notice the difference with the guys there. A lot of them are exactly the way you've described. Especially Scandanavians. I don't know why, but all of the Scandanavians I have ever met have been like that. They seem cold, distant and unemotional. I have also encountered a lot of Dutch guys who are like this. So I guess it's localized within Northern and North-Western Europe. Those guys are really weird and a lot of them are extremely perverted and have a really dark sense of humor. Idk I even see it on youtube. But what can you do? Some people are just weird.

Best place in the world to live a simple life?

Best place in the world to live a simple life?
I am young (taking a break from college) and have a love for living simply. There is nothing more I love than nature and detest the direction in which our world is turning. Don't get me wrong, I am not what people would call a hippy..though I am free spirited! I am very crafty and handy, spending considerable amounts of my free time building/carving or something of the like. I feel like I'm myself mostly in the outdoors..in recreation...or work. I like gardening and would love to grow my own food. I enjoy "primitive" hunting, as well as fishing and trapping (by instruments of my own design). Currently I work at a health foods store and desire nothing more than to move elsewhere. Somewhere that is quiet and I can build my own house etc. Somewhere the economy is naturally based and not fast paced like it is..here in the chicago area. My fiancee is interested in living in "earthships" if you've heard of them, and i'd be glad to build such a house. I've considered Oregon and Washington (I love cold, wet and green places), though I want to move somewhere far away. British Columbia and Alaska are two other options... What about Iceland, Greenland, Norway, Sweden or New Zealand? (I love mountains!) I don't know and I don't have much money. My only wish is to just get up and leave..start someplace new and live simply. If you want to make me feel bad, or talk me out of it....tell me how irrational I am or how stupid this is... go ahead, I just won't read or respond. Don't waste your finger strength. But if you have any advice or helpful websites, books etc or encouragement...please enlighten me! Thanks in advance. Sorry this is so weird. 0z

New Zealand is beautiful :D

I recommend Alachua, Florida. We have a big farm full of Hare Krishna devotees, you sound like you'd fit right in. The Hare Krsnas are all about vegetarianism, equality, and getting rid of what makes us miserable, which are our own desires. :)

Live in a quiet place..like in the.country! Its very calm.and simple!
4 :
Ketchikan, Alaska. Close to the mainland. Rains a lot. Interesting village.

Easy, I would go to the Canadian Rockies if they would let you in or Vermont. From what I have heard there is a huge group of independent off the grid homes in Vermont. If you don't already get Mother Earth I would try this and I think there are other books and magazines that deal with living a simple life. I have an Uncle who lives near Yellowstone who may have running water but lives a very simple life.

Antartica

Some people have same thinking in their mind, you have chance hear to ask a question, Make a personal visit and select the place.
8 :
NOT Sweden, you're not going to get any value for your money. To be happy here you need a lot of money so it's not the best country to go to if you want to live a happy but simple life. Plus, there aren't that many mountains. I think you should go to New Zealand, it seems like a beautiful country!

Madison, WI...nature, simple, access to good things....

How, by the following definition, is North Korea socialist/communist [Link to earlier question]?

How, by the following definition, is North Korea socialist/communist [Link to earlier question]?
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhlU9jY_AZ2SAQgC830Pz1Lsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100804103921AANe0uD If you aren't going to bother reading the definition, and answering according to this definition, don't even bother answering in the first place. And by extension, everything else people seem to recognise as socialist/communist? In this thread please use the definition below, for the sake of figuring if north korea is socialist/communist. If you are not going to do that, don't bother answering. This isn't a thread saying socialism will work, it's a thread challenging the commonly held views about what socialism is. First off, my views as a socialist do not mesh with the ideas of many who call themselves socialists; I have heavy disagreements with social democrats, democratic socialists, trotskyites, leninists, deleonists, maoists, and stalinists. Therefore the definition I give will not match their definition. Second, I would like to make clear that when I say socialism or communism, I use these two words to refer to the exact same thing, not as seperate ideologies or one as a transitional phase and the other as some obscure utopia. My definition of socialism/communism is a society in which the people themselves share ownership and control the land and the means of production, through direct democracy. Essentially it's the extension of democracy to every quarter of society, the home, the workplace, and the community at large. A socialist society can only exist when the vast majority of the world population wants it to; there is no buying a plot of land and forming your own commune, as socialism can't exist while capitalism does. The people themselves then establish the socialist society democratically, through a revolution. In a socialist society, the following should apply: The socialist society has no monetary or barter system, there is no money and no trade, a socialist society has a gift economy. The socialist society is leaderless, since leaders are inherently undemocratic. The people themselves are in charge, administrating through a global direct democracy. The socialist society is stateless. Essentially, state is the power to use force legally against people. Socialism can't work in a coercive system. As well the existence of a state would undermine a classless society. The socialist society is borderless and global. Socialism can't exist in one country, nor can it exist while capitalism exists. The socialist society is classless. There are no upper and lower classes, no elites and no poor, and there is no state. So your turn. Does north korea fit the definition above? Did the soviet union? Does china? How bout cuba, vietnam, or cambodia? Do France, Norway, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, or any of those european countries fit the definition? Does obama fit the above definition of socialism?
