In what ways could average people make our World different more suitable for all peoples to live in?

In what ways could average people make our World different more suitable for all peoples to live in?
My question here, which is going to be rather detailed, and maybe even a bit impossible to answer, but, here I go. Why do we keep living the way we do, and why, since we have enough people to be able to speak up and create change, do we not try to make things better, and not even attempt in solving problems, with out the beliefs that it is impossible, and that no matter how hard we try, money is the only answer? I have been thinking a lot about it, and it really really doesn't make sense that we can just sit here living day after day in a world with so much corruption, with holes open to fix it. It bothers me, and I really would like to see people trying more to really take part in what we do as people, not just countries in general, (I believe countries are equivalent to sports teams, but only greedier, and not for athleticism, but for control and power...) anyway, that's besides the point in asking; why do we need to make ourselves go through these horrible times, when in actuallity, the economy isn't crashing, they only tell us it is, since we happen to be believing this paper has value (even though it isn't backed up by anything else with real value) and hey, why do we need to be fighting a war now when something like 9/11 happened which we don't even know why it did happen, and I can bet you rightfully that not many of you have actually done research past watching CNN, ABC news, FOX, or any other one of the corrupt, and biased news channels, which in turn, disappoints me because we have so much more of an open source to view opinions, ask questions, and find things out from primary sources. I really hope some of you take the time to look at this question, which yes, is basically like an essay question, but hey, I'm seriously asking this, and it is a very sensitive and interesting topic, which I'd love to take part in, so please send both sides, and any other opinions, and I will read everything open-mindfully. Overall, I just want to get people thinking, and hopefully you can just take some time to think about things, and just get things you've been wondering about out in the open, and just see where it goes from there. I mean, did you know that under the pentagon there is enough nuclear weaponry power to destroy the entire earth in a matter of minutes. Yes, this is something I have heard from a friend of mine who was in the military, and I don't think that's going to really make too many people happy, now that I just told all of you. There's a lot of scamming, BS, and stupidity that has been obscenely destroying a healthier way of life, and a much better, and possible system of living in which people don't live for the "necessary evil" which is money, but more for the fact of living life wondering, discovering, and doing things on your own, working, but not being forced to do the same thing every day. Yes there could be chaos, but with the technology we have now, I believe the people can be relieved of needing to work, and thus forth bringing a surplus of products, including a surplus of necessities, such as food, and clothes, and much more. There is so much information out there, for everyone. More than you'll ever be able to read in 1,000 lifetimes. No matter what, we all share the same earth. If we keep on fighting these pointless wars, and bringing politics into everyday life, a lot could really change in the near future, which will bring us to our knees, as a society, and a planet. Taking this entire large question/description from a 16 year old kid, depressed being in a Technical school, one of the best in the U.S (*look up Bergen County Academies) and being there for telecommunications, which is sadly just work, and not learning. It is only being a drone, and I feel the need to express myself, which is something I rarely can do, I can tell you, things are really sad. I go to school from 7:30 to 4:10 every day with 40 minute long bus rides each way, and it feels so terrible being here, which thankfully I am finally leaving tomorrow, and transferring into a school where I will be taking art classes as major classes (I am a sophomore now...) and this whole time being in my school makes me wonder if I am even worth being here and living. I really, to be honest, just expressed how I am feeling right now about everything involving how messed up things are. I just think it isn't fair to be putting these things upon people, and making things so much worse for us. Face the facts: There are ways to help people everywhere. We just need to be more selfless, and stop relying on such a core evil of greediness and supreme mastery. I'm surprised I even wrote this much, but if you actually got through reading this, that's more than enough for me to make me happy and give you a lot of respect. Thanks to everyone who acknowledged this, and I hope to you that you atleast do some research, because I sorta answered the question voicing my

I agree with you that there is so very much wrong with our world that selflessness would go a long way toward curing. If everyone would give even two hours a week volunteer free for the cause of their choice and even 5 or 10 dollars. The world would be a much better place. Also abortions have greatly surpassed the number of innocent people killed in the holocaust. If all religious people stood up for human life, we would all have more self respect. Not only soldiers die in wars, so do children. This is why we should resist the need to war. This is a start. There is so much more to do. Peace be unto you my friend. Good luck at your new school. Do NOT major in art like I did because there are no good jobs.

Is a townhouse a good investment?

Is a townhouse a good investment?
OK so here is the situation. I live in New Jersey, home to some of the most expensive taxes and real estate in the nation. Back in January, I looked at a awesome, large, end unit townhouse in the woods of Passaic County, about 35 miles from New York City. It's in good condition, its clean, its big (2300 sq. ft) but its dated (but I can update it little bits at a time). It has a garage, finished basement, 2 BR, 2.5 baths, fireplace, backs to woods, and on a quiet road in the complex. Over the past few months I have been looking a lot of detached houses. The closer I get to work in Bergen County, the smaller, crappier, and more expensive the houses get, and the more and more I keep coming back to that townhouse which is still on the market 6 months later. The townhouse is priced very well and is in a nice area. If I put some money into updating it, do you think NJ's market will be kind to me as years go by or do you think a townhouse wont make equity? Is it a bad investmt?

Right now there are lots of "steals" on the market. Any updating you do is going to return what you put into it, if you find the right buyer. You didn't mention how far the townhouse was from your work, that might be a drawback with gas prices, and time driving.

I think you will do well if the property is well located. Location, location, location are the top 3 things to consider with real estate. Schools are really important in Jersey, so is the school district a good one? Lastly, ask around and see if there are new large development projects on line. Townhouses probably won't appreciate as quickly as single family homes, but they should track the market fairly well, and the overall market seems to be getting close to bottoming out.

I am in the same position as you are right now. Only I'm in south jersey. Any money put into real estate is usually a good investment. I'm just concerned the houses on the market are still a little bit over priced. Because of the big housing bubble. I don't want to pay 200 k for house and then have it be worth less in a few years from now. I think your pretty safe thou, Everybody in this state wants to be up in passiac county. A townhouse can build just as much equity as a detached home can. Especially if you start upgrading the kitchen and bath. A lot of people like the idea of a town home. No yard maintenance and no snow to shovel. I think your making a safe and smart investment.

If the townhouse is still on the market 6 months later at the same price, it's probably priced too high. If it were priced 'very well', someone else would have purchased it in 6 months. The real estate market is slow, but not that slow.

I speek english, spanish and italian, but I don't speek norwegian (or how ever you call it). I'm 24 and all I care is about getting some money while visiting my best friend over there. I've worked as an english and spanish teacher before... I'm also a dentist... so maybe I could work as a dental assistant or something... I'm Italian (If that makes any difference)

Have you tried looking at job sites like Monster.com or seeing if there's anything similar in Norway (or if they have a sort of affiliate site)? They may have placement services there as well like a temp agency. Try asking your best friend since he/she lives there what sort of services they may have that are similar to what I've mentioned :-) Maybe you can get work in a 'touristy' spot since you speak so many languages. Good luck! PS... bring me back some lefsa!

It's hard getting a job if you don't know Norwegian. If you're willing to take jobs which you're clearly overqualified for, there are mainly three branches which foreigner who don't know Norwegian work in Bergen: The Fishmarket (Bryggen), Guiding tourists (summertime) and construction. I don't know the chances of being a assistent dentist in Norway, as there are some requirements for speaking Norwegian for health-workers. It might be someone seeking private language lessons though. Good Luck!

What is considered a high rent for a single family home?
My family and I want to move into New Jersey most likely, Bergen County in Franklin Lakes, Wycoff, or Oakland my mother lives there and I think it would be great to live near her. We are looking at some houses for rent and found house renting from $1,000-6,500 my husband works and makes enough money for my family to be called sort of high-Middle Class. I was wondering if $1,000-6,500 is a high rent?

$1000 would not be considered high but $6500 could be.

Ideally you want to spend 25% of your income on rent. Realistically most people spend about 40-50% though.
