2012...once again :P?

2012...once again :P?
Now, I know what your thinkin, its one of those scared person looking for others to say "it wont happen" or "Hollywood only does it for money"..."Or god only knows when it will end...Mayans just decided to hunt for fish instead of making the calender"... But I would like a full, evidence on why...the world is not going to end...on that date of 2012... I read something about...certain governments...preparing different types of "in case" situation, Austrilla with the seeds...Norway with its ice cap chambers or whatever it is... I know 2012 the movie, is just a movie, though its based on the theory...Why cant we have a giant solar flare in 2011...and it effect us badly like it did...with the Earth quakes and such what....and...I thought the world would be covered with ash for 40 years..yet at the end of the movie..when it zoomed out you could clearly see the blue oceans, and the world was not covered in no ash. I know its a movie, I know it could be a hoax...but....I kinda want the answers to be answered. Well...the "statements" I have said :P. Btw is it true...since our calender starts Jan 1st..ends Dec 31st ..that the Mayans calender were just...more...long?... Well ty! Well, I knew I was going to get "You were stupid" from some one lol. Well...I was doing more research, and thank you. I suppose when you think about it, the 2012 movie did not go by the theory at all, with many details missing, so I guess thats a hint right there. And Rober/HmmletsSee...you say about how he predicted 9/11, world war 2..though these were all theories or well what he says about 2012...well if he was pretty close about those two why not this? And how could he anyways thats crazy :P Ty you all for the info!

"Btw is it true...since our calender starts Jan 1st..ends Dec 31st ..that the Mayans calender were just...more...long?" Yes. End of story.

There's this very long history of prior, failed predictions - http://www.abhota.info/end1.htm

The Mayans never predicted the end of the world, the calendar simply ended. Also, people may say that the calendar said "the end of the world AS WE KNOW IT" On the other hand, there is a theory that there is another planet in out Solar System, called Nibiru. It only orbits very rarely (I forget how long). The gravitational pull of Nibiru will be so huge, that it would tilt the world ever so slightly, causing earthquakes and what not. ALSO, a man named Nostradamus was a prophesier. He predicted a lot of stuff, like 9/11, World War 2, and 2012. Although he did not give a year, he gave a general time. Keep in mind, these are all theories. I find them interesting but I still don't think the world could end in one day. I think that people will freak out, commit suicide (some), and cause riots. EDIT: I forgot, the Illuminati. Their a conspiracy group that want the world to be one government. They use music artists to give out subliminal messages to have people become satanic, like they are, without even knowing it. Apparently, they will act out the coming of Jesus Christ, and if people don't believe, they will be killed. I think this is rediculous, but I do believe somewhat in the Illuminati. EDIT: I know what you mean, and I honestly can't answer that.

<But I would like a full, evidence on why...the world is not going to end...on that date of 2012...> You have this the wrong way round. It's not possible for someone to prove that something won't happen. Here's how it works. People who claim the end of the world will take place need to explain why. If they can't explain why, then there's no reason to suppose that the world won't continue, as it has done for the last 4 billion years. It's possible to look at every single doomsday claim for 2012 and dismiss it. Planet X/Nibiru - no sign of it. Pole shift - not physically possible before or during 2012. Solar storm - solar activity now expected to be lower than at the last maximum in 2001. Any planetary or solar alignment - doesn't have the slightest effect on us. And so it goes on until all the claims are dismissed and there is nothing left to distinguish 2012 from 2013, 2014, etc., in other words - just another year.

The only thing that will happen on 2012 is you'll probably lose your DirecTV satellite signal.

"But I would like a full, evidence on why...the world is not going to end...on that date of 2012..." I don't think I can prove that the world will not end in 2012. For that matter, I can't prove that the world will not end tomorrow or in 2035. There are some arguments as to why this is extremely unlikely. The earth has been around for about 4.5 billion years, life has been on earth for something like 3.5 billion years. Humans have been around for at least 250,000 years. Clearly anything that will destroy civilization or the Earth should be a very improbably event, one that happens once every million years or every billion years. The peak of the solar cycle happens once every 11 years. If we were going to get killed by solar flares or coronal mass ejections, it should have already happened. Geomagnetic reversals happen about every half million years. The last geomagnetic reversal happened 780,000 years ago. While humans were not alive, Homo erectus was, and it seemed not to have killed off our ancestors. The planet Nibiru is supposedly on a 3,600 year period. That would have given the planet plenty of time to destroy human kind through close encounters with Earth. Also people are notoriously bad at predicting the end of the world. See A Brief History of the Apocalypse for a list of dates people said the world would end but did not: http://www.abhota.info/

We can feel confident that disaster won't strike in 2012 not because we know it for a fact, but because we have no reason to think disaster will strike then. NONE of the claims hold up; they're a mix of bad science and bad history. About that "bad history" part--the Maya didn't predict disaster in 2012; their calendar cycles, not stops, and if anything they expected it to start an age of enlightenment. It is possible we'll get a big solar flare in 2011 or 2012--though it's less likely than 2013 or 2014, when solar activity is expected to peak. You see, the Sun's activity peaks *every* 11 years or so; it goes in cycles of activity. But solar flares don't really affect life on Earth. They can damage our satellites, and bad ones can damage the power grid on the ground--but that's about it. Earthquakes aren't affected by solar flares; saying a solar flare will cause quakes is equivalent to someone telling you that sunlight causes landslides, and on sunup exactly X months Y days from now we'll suffer massive landslides. That's the kind of logic that drives the doomsday predictions, once you peel away the plausible-sounding layers they surround it with. I hate to tell you this, but Nostradamus didn't predict WWII, 9/11, Hitler, or anything else in modern times. What people do is, after major events like that, they go through his quatrains looking for something they can shoehorn into looking like a prediction of the event. They often deliberately mistranslate certain words to make it fit the "prediction" better, too. Never trust a claimed Nostradamus prediction. On that note--I recall in the 80s hearing a Nostradamus prediction that World War III would be started in the 90s by some guy in the Middle East who "will come in a blue turban". I'm still waiting.

Well, I can tell you one thing for sure: in three years we will all be laughing our asses of thinking about those crazy folks believing the world would end in 2012! They were wrong about the year 2000 too by the way...

21 December 2012: The Boilerplate Answer We hear each day "two oh one two" The kids all ask if it is true. "Nibiru, the planet we must fear, Or planet X shall soon be here. The Mayan count runs to an end. I was told this by a friend.” Nibiru the hoax world of Sitchin Fit only for the garbage bin. Devoid of fact, reason or wit, Science laughs at all the talk of it. Of planet “X” Nan Lieder cries, And yet she won’t look at the skies, To come in thirteen months it’s true, The damn thing must be now in view! "Where is it?" Science asks with glee, "You said, ‘Beware two thousand three!’ With Earth it didn’t make a tryst, We’re very sure it don’t exist!" Galactic lines are the next fright, And yet the angles are not right. “Six degrees off!” the scientists say, “It happens near each solstice day.” But it would no difference make, You can be sure the thing’s a fake. "Planets align!" or so some say "It will be on that very day." Yet naught of fact now can they quote, I’d like to take them by the throat And try to squeeze some truth right in, But murder now they say’s a sin.
